Smart Art
(Point, 1)
Intended as the initial number of a series in which Masheck would continually introduce new artworks with, after a preface, there would be one page of text and three full-page black-and-white illustrations—still then standard for galleries and publishing, this turned out to be the only number. The artists shown and briefly discussed generally have a conceptual edge while also engaging the plastic qualities of painting, sculpture, or photography: Alan Belcher, Gretchen Bender, Mike Bidlo, Edward Brezinski, Chris Chevins, Craig Fisher, Joel Fisher, Heidi Gluck, Glenn Goldberg, Peter Haines, Richard Hambleton, David Knobel, Kevin Larmon, Allan McCollum, Marilyn McLaren, Mike Metz, Richard Milani, John Miller, Kieth Milow, Matt Mullican, Peter Nadin, Peter Nagy, Joseph Nechvatal, Joel Otterson, Michelle Owings, Steven Parrino, David Reed, Joyce Robins, Walter Robinson, Robert Schechter, Ted Stamm, and Oliver Wasow. A second number never materialized.
